Acubase, a bibliographic database on acupuncture
In 1980, the Nîmes University Medical Library received 48 titles of acupuncture journals and approximately 50 acupuncture theses and dissertations written in France from Professor Jean Bossy. This initial collection was expanded by a donation of 250 books from AFERA (the French Association for the Study and Research of Acupuncture). Thus was born a collection on acupuncture that is unique in France.
The challenge of cataloging all these works quickly became apparent. That is why, thanks to a collaboration between Professor Jean Bossy, volunteer members of AFERA, acupuncture students, and the Nîmes University Medical Library, the acupuncture database—Acubase—was created, followed by its thesaurus.
Today, the collection continues to grow thanks to new acquisitions of books, e-books, and subscriptions to print and electronic periodicals; the cataloging of these materials; conference proceedings; and student research projects related to acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine.
